Redman tips tables for University, 56-55

MOUNDSVILLE -- University High overcame a slow start to rally in the second half and defeated John Marshall, 56-55 when Jeff Redman tipped in a miss by Adam Clise at the buzzer.

The Hawks trailed 18-5 at the end of the first quarter.

"We couldn't hit from the outside and we didn't have much defense early," said coach Dick Parsons.

By halftime University was down 33-18 but came roaring back in the final two periods.

"We turned up the defensive pressure, Jared Mayfield tipped and blocked a lot of shots setting up fast break baskets," said Parsons.

University got the lead in the fourth quarter, only to have John Marshall come back, leading to the winning basket by Redman.

Mayfield had 13 points and Jay Forsythe 12 for University.

BRIDGEPORT -- Bobby Prim and Nick Hedges each scored 19 points as Morgantown High pulled out a win after a slow start.

MHS is 2-0, while Bridgeport is 1-2.

"Bobby Prim and Nick Hedges played one heck of a game," MHS coach Tom Yester said.

MHS trailed, 39-38, with 3:52 left in third quarter before a basket by Prim got the Mohigans on a 21-7 run.

"I was especially pleased in our ability to take the ball to the basket and rebound," Yester said. "We got behind a little in the third, but the kids just kept playing."

Ronnie Shaver added 17 points for MHS, while Bridgeport was led by Nick Carbacio's 20 points.
