Hi! My name is Johnny and I am taking over the responsibility of writing the journal for the Mohigan basketball web site. I prefer to stay anonymous, so I can write my true feelings. I hope I can be helpful and give insight to Mohigan basketball for years to come.
Facing the number 3 and 4 ranked teams in the state would be an impossible task for most teams, but this years Mohigan team will accept the challenge. Up first will be visit to fourth rated East Fairmont on Tuesday, as MHS looks to avenge an early season loss to the Bees. Then on Thursday it will face the number three rated Polar bears at the MAC. Victories in both games would push MHS to the top five of the state rankings, a place that this team has worked very hard to be.
This past Saturday, MHS looked sharp in a victory over John Marshall as they pulled of a 69-53 victory. During many spurts MHS showed some of the ability it has, however they had trouble hanging on to the ball and staying focused on defense. “We had many spurts where JM scored off of us being out of position,” said Coach Hoffman. “We have to have better focus and know when to push and when to set it up. This team could be very good if we would just stop making silly mistakes.”
The game was a joyous occasion for many as it marked the return of Dan Dalton to the lineup. He had been suffering from injuries received during a car accident in November. “Having Dan back will allow us to rest Geremy more and play him at some other positions.,” said Coach Hoffman. “We can be very quick when we have Dan, Geremy, Chad and Seth in at the same time. Coach Yester wants to experiment with this lineup as the season goes.”
The JV team is off to a 6-0 start and looks like a “well oiled machine” at times. The ball moves from one side to the other and they have great skill. It is nice to see all of the players on this team contribute. The game at East this week will be a rematch with a team that had MHS down by 5 in the fourth quarter.
