High school Athletes of the Week

Ben Torsney

Morgantown High center Ben Torsney averaged 15.5 points, as the No. 2-ranked Mohigans went 2-0 on the week. Torsney led the Mohigans with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-62 victory over Fairmont Senior.

Keri Pryor

Morgantown High's Keri Pryor averaged 14.5 points on the week in two victories for the No. 3-ranked Mohigans. Pryor led the Mohigans to an 82-54 victory over crosstown rival and fifth-ranked University with 19 points.

Honor roll

Boys' basketball

* Clay-Batelle's Mike Simpson scored 35 points in a 67-64 loss to Valley Wetzel.

* Morgantown High's Chris Carey averaged 14 points on the week.

* University High's Charles Cyphert averaged 13.5 points on the week, while teammate Jedd Gyorko averaged 13.

* Preston's Cameron Walls averaged 12.5 in two victories last week.

Girls' basketball

* Morgantown High's Joanna Joseph averaged 13.5 points in two wins.

* Trinity's Cassie Yoskovich averaged 11.7 points in three games.

* University High's Angela Scotchel averaged 14 points in two games.

Wrestling

* Morgantown High's Jared Garvin won the 125-pound championship, at the Burgettstown (Pa.) tournament. Garvin went 3-0 in the tourney to up his record to 35-0 on the season.

* University High's Kyle Turnbull (119), Ben Waldron (130), Mark Sappington (135), Henry Miller (140) and David Campbell (145) all went 4-0 on the week in a match againsy Preston and then in a quad match against Bridgeport, Southern Garrett (Oakland, Md.) and Mussleman.
