Mohigans trail entering fourth quarter; Preston High keeps pace in NCAC

WHEELING -- The No. 2-ranked Morgantown High boys' basketball team grabbed the lead for good midway in the fourth quarter in a 67-60 victory Saturday, against Wheeling Park.

Ben Torsney scored 23 points to lead Morgantown (15-0) and added 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Tyler Benson scored 16 points for the Mohigans, who trailed, 50-48, heading into the fourth quarter. Marlin Robinson came off the bench to score all eight of his points in the third quarter for the Mohigans, who had 15 assists to just eight turnovers for the game.

RACHEL -- The No. 2-ranked Morgantown High boys' basketball team remained undefeated Wednesday with a 74-67 victory, against North Marion.

For the first time this season, the Mohigans (6-0) trailed heading into the fourth quarter, as North Marion (1-4) held a 49-46 lead, but MHS outscored the Huskies the rest of the way, 28-18.

In that fourth quarter, sophomore Marlan Robinson scored all 11 of his points.

Chris Carey led the way for MHS with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Kameron Law added 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

The Mohigans host Brooke at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

* The Trinity Warriors are still undefeated, winning their sixth straight game, 67-56, against Mapletown, Pa. Dan Webster led Trinity's scoring with 24 points. Grant Neely added 13, Andy Schultz 11 and Tyler Etris 10.

Mapletown was led by the five 3-pointers from Cory Dillinger, who finished with 25 points. Kevin Mackcanich added 12 for the Maples (8-4).

MORGANTOWN (6-0)

Long arm of MHS Law stops Elkins

ELKINS -- Kameron Law took control of the game early and helped Morgantown High to its fifth straight victory, defeating Elkins, 58-42.

Law had five blockled shots while also scoring 19 points.

He made it a double-double byi also taking down 10 rebounds and adding three assists.

"Law was our leader to tonight," said coach Tom Yester. "He established our tempo early."

The game was one of MHS's best defensive efforts of the season as they held Elkins to just 42 points.

Elkins hit only 11 field goals in the entire game.

Play started off sloppy as Elkins scored but three points in the first quarter and the Mohigans weren's much better, scoring just seven.

However, Law and Co. took control in the second period and rolled from there.

"Our defense was really good," said Yester.

Chris Carey also had a solid game for MHS, scoring 13 points and adding three rebounds and three assists.
