Prior to Friday evening's final home game, against Fairmont Senior, Morgantown High coach Tom Yester told his five seniors that this was their night and to just go out and have fun.

The seniors did just that, combining for 48 of the Mohigans' points in a 71-42 victory against the Polar Bears. Morgantown ran its record to 21-0.

"This group of seniors has over 80 wins in four years, which is phenomenal," Yester said. "We're real proud of them."

The Polar Bears, who were only down by 10 at halftime, were outscored, 40-19, in the second half.

Senior Ben Torsney poured in a game-high 20 points, including 10 in the third quarter, to pace the Mohigans. Isaac Layfield led the Polar Bears with 13.

"I figured I might as well come out and make my mark," Torsney said. My teammates did a good job getting me the ball and I was lucky enough to finish."

MHS got a balanced effort in which 10 different players scored. Senior Tyler Jones scored in double figures for the first time, adding 14 points, while fellow senior Tyler Benson chipped in with 10.

Fairmont Senior struggled throughout the game against the Mohigans' suffocating defense, which led to an abundance of turnovers.

While both teams exchanged baskets early on, a 7-2 MHS run to end the first quarter gave the Mohigans a 17-12 lead.

The momentum carried into the following quarter for MHS, with Jones and Torsney combining for the team's final seven points to make it 32-22, MHS, at the half.

The Mohigans don't get much rest. Tonight they face a crucial road game at Parkersburg South.

"This was a good win, but we need to jump to a better one tomorrow," Yester said.
