CHARLESTON — Marlan Robinson and Jeff Lindsay combined to shoot 85 percent from the floor and No. 4 Morgantown High came back after a slow start to beat No. 9 Parkersburg South, 67-63, Friday at the Hoops Classic, at the Charleston Civic Center.
Robinson scored a season-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting, while Lindsay connected on 7-of-8 shots for 20 points to lead the Mohigans (2-0).
“It was a good game for us, a good experience for us,” MHS coach Tom Yester said. “Parkersburg South is never easy. I certainly liked the way Marlan and Jeff played. They’re our two most experienced players.”
The Patriots (1-1) led, 18-12, after the first quarter, but the Mohigans came back to outscore Parkersburg South, 23-12, in the second quarter for a 35-30 halftime lead.
MHS also went 6-of-10 from 3-point range.
“That was huge for us,” Yester said. “They only had two 3-pointers, which was unusual for them, but we were hot from behind the arc and it made a difference.”
Robinson had three 3-pointers and Lindsay connected on two.
Aaron Dobson led the Patriots with 21 points and Josh Gains added 17. Parkersburg South outscored MHS, 24-18, in the fourth quarter but was never able to regain the lead.
“There’s still things we need to work on,” Yester said. “We turned the ball over 20 times, that’s way too many for us. I didn’t like the way we rebounded, we should have been better there, but overall it’s a big win for us and it was a good experience to come down to Charleston and play a game.”
