Jamie Karraker came off the bench to score 24 points and Jeff Lindsay poured in 31 as Morgantown High outraced Martinsburg, 83-69, in boys’ basketball Saturday.
Karraker collected six of Morgantown’s 10 3-pointers, no doubt impressing WVU 3-point standout Kevin Pittsnogle, who watched the game from the stands, and earning the praise of coach Tom Yester.
“We didn’t start Jamie because we went with a taller lineup,” he said, “then we brought him off the bench and he had a terrific game.”
Lindsay added three assists and sank 9 of 10 free throws. Sharp shooting from the line helped MHS hold off the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter — they made 16 of 20.
Elliott Law had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals for MHS. J.T. Lewis had nine rebounds and five assists, and John Hatfield added seven rebounds, plus four assists Yester said “were absolutely huge for us.”
Andre’ Hornes netted 29 points and Q’Monte Matheny 23 for Martinsburg.
MHS plays in the sectional championship game Friday, at University.
SHINNSTON — An icy fourth quarter cost Preston any chance to win in a 46-37 loss to Lincoln. Trailing, 29-17, at halftime, the Knights played a fine third quarter to get back into the game, but managed just four points the rest of the way.
“The third quarter we knocked [the lead] down to four and then we went cold in that fourth quarter, had just one field goal, shot 1-for-13,” coach Barry Sanders said.
Josh Adams led the Knights with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Tyler Etris scored a seasonhigh 24 points, Dallas Riley added 20, and Trinity held on to beat Notre Dame, 74-70. The Warriors led by 16 at one point. Justin Bolen and Steven Dehlin added 10 points each for Trinity.
Ben Angotti led Notre Dame, with 22 points.
