MHS SCHEDULE LOOKS CHALLENGING

The Morgantown High Boys will have to work hard to have another 20 win season. Coach Yester “beefed up” the schedule and made it tougher as the team prepares for another run at the state championship. The first game of the year will be at Preston who will have their best team in years, returning. Then the Mohigans will be off to Charleston and play a top five team, Capital, in the Hoops Classic. Capital will return nearly their whole team which advanced to last year's state semifinals. Over Christmas break the Mohigans will travel to Martinsburg and play Jefferson (a top 10 team) and the winner of the Martinsburg and Parkersburg South game. MHS will visit Parkersburg South on January 4th. Wheeling Park and Martinsburg will visit in February. Three clashes with UHS will occur during the year which means MHS will play as many as ten games against top ten teams.
“This schedule should help us prepare for our late season run, said Coach Hoffman. University will be quit a challenge again this year. The schedule looks extremely hard with all the road games early in the season. We also have to factor in the fact that the football players will be getting a late start, as they will no doubt advance deep into the playoffs. Teams will be at an advantage early in the season.”
Look for MHS to have another great season.

We Should be Proud of our Program

Not many programs across the country have the success that the Morgantown High Boys basketball program is having. A 102-21 record over the past 5 seasons is testament enough, however the fact that MHS has seven players playing in college, would make believers out of any doubters. The record could be much better were it not for a midseason accident that cut the high school career of Marlan Robinson short. Marlan could well be the best of the group and we are happy to report that he is on the road to recovery and plans to play again, after taking a year off to completely heal. Just recently we learned that John Hatfield will be continuing his career next year in college. That announcement will come at a later time.
Here is an update on our players:

Kameron Law- transferred to West Liberty State
Ben Torsney- Allegheny, PA
Tyler Benson- St. Boneventure (Atlantic 10)
John Oliver- Carnegie Mellon
Dustin Kerns- Lebanon Valley, PA
Chris Carey- Fairmont State (Division II Rookie All-American)
John Hatfield- to be announced
Marlan Robinson- sitting out 2006-07

It looks like there is a lot of young talent in the program, so players extending their careers should continue and the success of the program should continue to show.
