MHS boys bop B-U on road 2/20/08

TENNERTON — Morgantown High’s boys’ basketball team wrapped up a perfect North Central Athletic Conference season with a 71-48 victory over Buckhannon-Upshur on Saturday night.
    MHS (19-3, 14-0 NCAC) led 28-20 at halftime before pulling away in the second half. The Mohigans outscored B-U, 24-10 in the third quarter, breaking the game open.
    MHS shot 52 percent from the field and had a season-low four turnovers to go along with 13 assists and 11 steals.
    Anthony Schifano paced MHS with 14 points. Zach Cooke finished with 13 points. B-U’s Connor McCauley led all scorers with 27 points. McCauley sank four 3-pointers.
    “McCauley had a great ballgame,” MHS coach Tom Yester said. “We didn’t do a very good job on him, but nobody else got above five points. It was a pretty dominating game other than that.”
    MHS returns to action Friday against rival University High in sectional action. Tip-off at the UHS gymnasium is 7:30 p.m.
Junior varsity basketball MHS 71, Buckhannon-Upshur 26 MHS 82, Fairmont Senior 43
    Morgantown High’s junior varsity team completed a 20-0 season with convincing wins over Buckhannon-Upshur and Fairmont Senior. Sam Runner scored 21 points and Luke Meador added 12 in the win over B-U. Nathan Colombo paced MHS in the Fairmont Senior triumph with 14 points. Runner finished with 12 points, and Taylor Simmons contributed 11.
