Former Mohigan Roundballer, Geremy Rodamer Leads Wingate to Win, Transfers From Marshall

 Fayetteville, N.C.---- Wingate University redshirt freshman tailback Nelson Woods (Charlotte, N.C.) will remember his Bulldog debut, as the Burns High School graduate rushed 21 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns as Wingate outlasted Fayetteville State University 34-26 Saturday night at D.T. Carter Stadium on the campus of E.E. Smith High School.

The contest was the season opener for both teams. Lifetime, Wingate is 18-4 overall in senior college season openers. The Bulldogs return home to host Saint Paul ’s (Va. ) College Saturday, September 1 at 1:30 p.m. Fayetteville State visits North Carolina Central University Sunday, September 2 at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs received several outstanding performances. Wingate redshirt junior quarterback JD Moore ( Gastonia , N.C. ) was 15-for-27 for 236 yards and two touchdown passes. Moore was nine-of-11 for 178 yards and one score after halftime, as Wingate rallied from a 13-10 halftime deficit.

 
“A Beford field goal and a Woods TD put Wingate up 34-19 with 6:32 to play. Fayetteville State did not quit, as freshman quarterback Ben Williams ( Charlotte , N.C. ) scrambled for an 18-yard touchdown with 5:25 to play. The Broncos advanced the ball to the Wingate five-yard line in the waning moments, but could not convert.

The offenses were evenly matched, as Wingate compiled 377 yards total offense to 375 yards for FSU. Bulldog senior defensive end Kenwin Cummings ( Maxton , N.C. ) had six tackles and two QB sacks. Senior defensive back Geremy Rodamer ( Morgantown , W.Va. ) recorded a team-best nine tackles and a forced fumble.

Wingate senior linebacker Tyler Johnson ( Hickory, N.C.) matched Rodamer with nine stops, while fellow senior linebacker Bobby Floyd ( Fairmont , N.C. ) contributed eight tackles.
 Wingate will open the home portion of its 2007 season Saturday, Sept. 1, facing another CIAA member in Saint Paul’s (Va.) College. Game time is 1:30 p.m. The Bulldogs have won four home openers in a row, dating to the 2003 season. The Bulldogs have won 13 of their last 14 home openers.
