MOHIGAN JV GO UNDEFEATED, AGAIN

The Morgantown High JV’s finished their season with a perfect 19-0 record this season. All together nine players averaged over seven points per game and the closest game was a four point game against Martinsburg. “A lot of teams use their better sophomores on the Varsity team, but we have the luxury allowing our sophomores to develop at the less intense JV level.,” said Coach Jeff Hoffman. “I invite the players to play outside of their comfort zone and expand their game. It is much easier for a player to improve when the outcome of the game is not important. Each player averaged over 20 minutes per game and was permitted to play through mistakes, which helps players get better and better. There are not many Varsity teams on our schedule that we couldn’t compete with at this point in the season. These guys have been great to coach and I have enjoyed this season more than anyone can imagine.”

The 2008-09 team averaged 74 point per game and gave up 39 points per game. “The 2000 JV team averaged 74 and gave up 34 points per game, but this team is very comparable to them,” Said Hoffman. “That is a good sign, because that group became one of the best teams in Mohigan history when they were seniors. All of this year’s players get along and are like a band of brothers. They will go far, together.

Three juniors played key roles on this team. “Luke Meador, Jordan Barnett and Nathan Colombo played about 10 minutes or so per game,” said Coach Hoffman. “ The coaches decided to keep just 6 sophomores this year so they would get maximum playing time and the juniors played just enough to give the sophomores a rest and keep foul trouble from being an issue. That permitted a few of the backups on the Varsity to get valuable playing time and warm up before the Varsity game.

The future on Edgewood Street sure looks bright, but now we all must focus on Wednesday’s sectional game a John Marshall. In the meantime the JV’s can be proud of a job well done!
