Mohigans Finish 11th in RPI Poll/ New Format for Sectional
The Morgantown High Mohigans have finished the regular season with an RPI rating of 11th in the state. This poll is like the football playoff poll used in the fall. MHS, with a 14-7 record will travel to John Marshall on Wednesday to take on the Monarchs who finished 10th at 17-5. Morgantown’s high rating despite their 7 losses is due to the powerful schedule that MHS has played this year. Morgantown has played 4 of the top six teams at least once and own a victory over Parkersburg South. The Mohigans finished the season with a 13-1 record in the NCAC to claim their 2nd consecutive championship and their 6th in the last eight years. They have been to the state tournament 7 times since 2000 and 5 times they have made it to the semifinals.

This year, there is a different format for the Mohigans to make it to Charleston. They must first go to #2 seeded John Marshall next Wednesday for round one of the sectionals. MHS (3rd), must win to advance to the sectional championship which will be played at either Wheeling Park (1st), or at home against University (4th) or Brooke (5th). The sectional championship is to be held on the home court of the higher seed.  The winner of the sectional championship will host the runner up in the sectional that includes Preston, North Marion and East and West Fairmont in the regional final. The runner up from the MHS section will travel to the sectional champion of the other section for the regional final. The regional finals will occur on Tuesday March 10th.
