Greenbrier East rallies past Mohigans, 62-59

BECKLEY — Greenbrier East guards Hayden Roberts and Jalen Walker combined for 38 points to lead Greenbrier East to a 62-59 victory over Morgantown High, late Saturday, in the BAC tournament.
Roberts poured in 22 points and Walker added 16, as Greenbrier East rallied from a 16-7 first-quarter deficit to down the Mohigans (10-3).
“The big thing was, their guards played well, and our guards struggled,” MHS coach Tom Yester said.
Sam Runner registered a gamehigh 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds for MHS, but he was the only Mohigans player to score in double figures. The Mohigans went 0-for-12 from the 3-point line.
“Usually when we win, we have three [in double figures],” Yester said. “Give Greenbrier East credit. They deserved to win. We didn’t play hard enough. We did not look ready. We were a step slow, a little lethargic. The guard play was pretty weak. That was the difference.”
Ryan Parsons scored eight points, and Jordan Barnett finished with seven for MHS, which returns to action Wednesday, at Elkins.
