Four from area make boys’ star roundball

The area will be well represented at the North-South boys’ all-star basketball game, June 17, at the South Charleston Community Center.

Selected to play in the annual seniors-only game for the North squad are Preston High’s Shayne Murray and Colton Goff, Morgantown’s Taylor Price and Trinity’s Chris Martinez.

Preston’s Barry Sanders will be one of the two coaches for the North squad.

Murray and Price were both first-team Class AAA all-state selections this season. Goff was a third-teamer.

Martinez was named firstteam Class A all-state captain. He scored 17.8 points per game to lead all area scorers, while Murray averaged 17.5 ppg, Price 15.3 ppg and Goff 13.1 ppg.

The state’s player of the year, Ripley’s Chase Fischer, who averaged 37 ppg, also will be on the North.

The North-South festivities will include a free throw shooting contest, a 3-point shootout and a slam-dunk contest, scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will tip off at 7:30.

Since the game resumed, in 1983, the South holds a 23-5 lead. However, the North has won two of the last four years.

Boys’ lacrosse University 15, Bridgeport 0

Sophomore Shane Thompson scored seven goals and added two assists for the Hawks (4-2). Senior Brock Karolcik added four goals and three assists, while Kris Lankford had two goals and one assist. Alex Battin scored one goal and three assists, while Logan Bartholomew had one goal. Chris Litton, Jack Armstrong and Justin Dicks each had an assist.

Hawks goaltender Billy Toth recorded two saves and Roman Tarantini added three.

UHS travels to Linsly at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
