Despite coming back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the cold-shooting Mohigans took a loss against the Patriots.
Dean Marshall scored 16 points and snagged three steals, Nicolas Colasante added 11 points and Daniel Eby grabbed five rebounds.
The Mohigans, playing without injured starting forwards Nathan Adrian and Austin Agnew, stayed in the contest with ball control, posting only six turnovers on the night.
However, they lost it with their shooting, going 16-of-42 from the floor, 2-of-14 from 3-point range and 8-of-15 from the free-throw line.
“That’s what sunk our boat,” MHS head coach Tom Yester said. “We couldn’t make a bucket and we didn’t make our free throws and they made theirs when it counted. We are struggling without the big boys to get the buckets.” MHS celebrated Senior Night and honored the careers of Adrian, Agnew, Colasante, Eby, Marshall and Mark Johnson. Luke Saseen scored 10 points for Wheeling Park. MHS travels to crosstown rival University, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
