MHS rolls Brooke, Preston falls
The Dominion Post
MORGANTOWN — The Morgantown High boys’ basketball team rallied from a sluggish first half and applied pressure in the second half to knock off Brooke, 79-60, Monday night.
The Mohigans (11-9) got a balanced scoring effort from Scottie Core (20 points), Thomas Selby (14) and Steven Solomon (13), while Russell Schwertfeger (26) did most of the damage for the Bruins (10-11).
“I think we wore them down a bit,” MHS head coach Tom Yester. “We didn’t play real well in the first half but the key to the second half was that we got them tired and in foul trouble. Then we hit our free throws.”
Morgantown used 12 players in the win, which came at the end of a four-game stretch in six days.
“We spread it out,” Yester said. “I was proud of them. A lot of them don’t usually play as many minutes as they did tonight. But we’ve played a lot of games and we knew we had to save our legs. So this was a good one for us.”
MHS will host No. 9 AAA Musselman on Wednesday.
