Morgantown 61 Fairmont Senior 54
The Mohigans survived the Polars Bears’ 3-point barrage by making their free throws in a Senior Night victory.
Fairmont Senior made 10 3-pointers to three for MHS (10-9), but the Polar Bears went to the line just four times, sinking two. MHS was 14-for-24.
“They’re not real big and they shot 3s,” MHS coach Tom Yester said, explaining the differences. “We didn’t ‘find’ them (on the court) very well, as you can see.”
The Bears’ Jacob Casalinuova “made four of his six 3s in the fourth quarter. We played a pretty poor offensive first half and were down by two. We came out in the third quarter and got the lead back to five and make a pretty good move and get ahead in the fourth, then we’re our own worst enemy. They came back at us; thank goodness we had enough composure to make our free throws (9-for-13) in the fourth quarter.
“It was a pretty good game. We didn’t play great, they didn’t play great either. Pretty tough to play Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. We looked a little tired.”
Scottie Core tallied 14 points and Steven Solomon 13 to lead MHS. Solomon added five rebounds and four assists. Antonio Morgano added three assists.
The Mohigans honored three seniors: Core, Andy Vac and Shaun Carden.
Casalinuova led the Polar Bears with 18 points. MHS plays host to Brooke on Monday.
