MOHIGANS HANDLE NORTH MARION

A steady effort and a good road win. Those are the thoughts about the win by the Morgantown Varsity at North Marion on Monday night in the makeup game between Mohigans and Huskies. Coach yester was able to play 13 players and MHS eased to a 65-51 victory. Jordan Barnett led the way with 15 points and Ryan Parsons added 12 points. Sam Runner had 9 points and Ben Blemings and Carlton Drake came off the bench to score 8 points and 7 points. MHS will play at John Marshall tonight and travel to Martinsburg on Saturday.ÓIt was good to get a win after the tough loss at Wheeling Park,Ó said Coach Yester. ÒWe will see how we do at JM on Thursday and at Martinsburg on Saturday. Those are two of the toughest places in West Virginia to play. If we can win those games, I will feel a lot better about this team.Ó

WHEELING PARK DEFEATS MHS 9TH FOR FIRST LOSS

Its always tough on the road in Freshman ball and the Mohigan 9th grade team found out last night as they were defeated 57-53 in overtime at Wheeling Park. Free throws are always crucial in big games and MHS had trouble last night. ÒDean Marshall was 6-9 but the rest of the team was 5-14 and that ultimately cost us,Ó said a disappointed but not discouraged Coach White. ÒYou have to hit them in close games, but this game is on me, too. I didnÕt have them (the team) ready to face the kind of pressure that Wheeling used or we would have won easily. I am still encouraged as the boys played hard and really played a very good game. No one should be discouraged after this game. We learned more tonight than we have all season and this game will make both teams better. Wheeling Park is a very good team,Ó added White. ÒWe will play them at home later in the season.Ó Marshall led MHS with 23 points followed by Nick Colasante with 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Alex Weidman added 6 points, 2 steals, 2 assists and 4 rebounds and Austin Agnew had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Ryan Antonini had 7 points and Aaron Goff added 3 points. MHS will play at Martinsburg on Saturday at 4:00 and the game will be broadcast by mohiganbasketball radio.
