A NOTE FROM A NEW FAN IN NEW JERSEY

This Mohigan Varsity team is opening eyes all over the state as well as the eastern seaboard. This is a note received from a business man from New Jersey that was in town on Tuesday evening and watched the Marion-Franklin game on West TV.

I am visiting WVU on business and just happened to turn the game on while at the hotel. It was compelling to watch as a fan of high school and college basketball. I had to finish watching while on the treadmill and almost lost my balance a few times cheering for MHS. They played an amazingly disciplined game and so I decided I should get the video for my 13 year old son to watch. Just great coaching moments in there in terms of discipline, tenacity and the will to win.
When I get back home I will send the check out to buy a copy.
Thanks so much,
Brian

It was a great game and we hope there are many more this season.

MOHIGAN VARSITY RUNS BUCS

The Mohigan Varsity team started quick and finished quicker and defeated Buckhannon by a score of 73-29. Senior Jordan Barnett led the scoring with 13 points, Ryan parsons 12 points, Luke Meador 11 points and Sam Runner had 10 points helped to lead the way. MHS started with a flurry and led 24-8 at the end of the first quarter and the lead grew to 44-17 at halftime. ÒYou have to come and make sure you get your game in,Ó said senior Nathan Columbo. ÒWe have to make sure that everyone takes all teams seriously even though Buckhannon hasnÕt won a game this year, we had to play hard and have good team work.

MHS (8-2) and ranked 3rd (RPI) in the latest computer power poll, will play at University High on Friday night. Then on Saturday they will travel to Elkins. Next Wednesday, MHS will travel to Preston on Wednesday.

MOHIGAN JV RUNS RECORD TO 9-1

Nathan Adrian (24 points) made it look easy last night as he led the MHS JV team to an 84-21 victory over Buckhannon at Rowdie Center. Outscoring the opponent is a rare feat but the lanky Freshman showed his ability in the victory. ÒHe can be a good one,Ó said Coach Crouso. ÒHis potential is unlimited. He will really be good once he puts on some weight. His brother Jared (junior Mohigan football player) is up to 215 pounds and there is no reason to think Nathan wonÕt add weight just like him. If he puts on weight like Jared, he will be a beast.Ó Alex Watson added 18 points on 7-9 shooting. Conner Loudin had a huge night as well and he added 16 points and Josh Childs put up 10 points. MHS will travel to University on Friday night.

MAKE PLANS TO JOIN VARSITY IN BECKLEY

Morgantown High (ranked 3rd in latest RPI) will get to take on Noah Cottrell, and his (#1 ranked, AP poll), Logan Wildcats next week at the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley. Cottrell has signed to play for WVU and will be the second player that has done so to play against the Mohigans. Last week, MHS defeated Elijah Macon of marion-Franklin in the Primetime Shootout. The Logan game will be played at 9:00 pm on Friday evening Feb. 5. MHS will play the next day at 12:20 or 5:40 depending on whether they win on Friday evening. On Saturday the opponent will be either Greenbriar East or Hedgesville.

SUNCREST TAKES 2ND LOSS

Coach Parsons and his Cheat Lake Sharks hosted the 8th grade Seals on Tuesday night and came away with an impressive 49-33 victory. For the Seals it marks their first county loss of the season and knocks them into second place in the county standings. Scott Core led Suncrest with 8 points, Andy Vac and Dakota Carr added 6 points each and Logan Hatch contributed 5 points. Suncrest will play at West Fairmont on Friday evening.

SUNCREST 7th RUNS SHARKS, 8-0

Alex Cooke and Denver Goldsmith led the Seals to a 45-28 victory OVER THE Cheat Lake Sharks on Tuesday evening. Cooke had 16 points and Goldsmith added 14 points. Suncrest will play at West Fairmont on Friday night. Cheat Lake now has a record of 7-3.

FROSH WIN, 11-1 MOHIGANS LED BY ANTONINI

Ryan Antonini blends into the background most of the time and thatÕs the way he likes it. He would rather make a nice pass then score a basket, but on Tuesday evening, Ryan showed everyone what he is capable of. Hitting 4 three pointers he led the Mohigan 9th graders to a 65-16 victory over Preston at the Rowdie Center. Antonini ended up with 16 points and Dean Marshall chipped in 13 points. MHS will play at Elkins on Saturday at 4:00. Listen to the game on mohigan radio, if you canÕt make it to Elkins.
