VARSITY GETS ON TRACK

By Jeff Hoffman

That was better, the Mohigans routed East Fairmont by a score of 88-47 on Tuesday night at the ÒRowdy,Ó Rowdy Center. It was ÒJersey Shore NightÓ and the student section was ÒRockinÓ. ÒThe students made a big difference and we had a great atmosphere in here tonight,Ó said Coach Yester after the victory. Approximately 200 ÒRowdyÓ students were very annoying to East Fairmont as the Bees could only score 14 points in the first half. The student section was the best MHS has had in some time and it proved to be very intimidating for East Side. It helped pump up the Mohigans as they scored most of their points off of defensive pressure and fast breaks. Sam Runner had 2 slams, one in the first minute of the game and one at the beginning of the second half to ignite the Mohigans. Showing the depth of the team, just about everyone scored and contributed to the MHS onslaught.

East will get better. They are fighters and are well coached, so look for the return match at East Fairmont to be much closer. Before then, the Mohigans will play at Wheeling Park on January 2 to determine seeding in post season play. A victory at Wheeling Park would be step one to securing home court advantage in post season play. A loss would most likely mean a trip to Wheeling Park to make it out of sectional play. Not something MHS wants to do, particularly with such a huge home court advantage that we have at the Rowdy Center. It ÒShoreÓ would be nice to host through the sectionals.
