HAWKS NO MATCH FOR MOHIGANS

ItŐs a game that scares both coaches but most of all the coach of the favored team. Coach Yester wasnŐt worried this time as he knew his vastly improved Mohigan team would put the clamps on and get the victory over cross county rivals, University. ŇYou never know in a rivalry, but these guys have listened and played hard all year,Ó said Yester. ŇIf we play team defense and make some shots we will be hard to beat.Ó ThatŐs what MHS did on Friday night as they dismantled the Hawks by a score of 73-35, at UHS. Jordan Barnett led four scorers in double figures with 14 points, Sam runner added 12, Ryan Parsons, 11 and Taylor Price pumped in 10. MHS (9-2) ranked 5th in the latest state power poll will play #3 Preston Wednesday and then play in the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley on Friday and Saturday. In Beckley they will get another chance to knock of one of Coach HugginŐs (WVU) recruits. Noah Cottrell and his Logan Wildcats (#6) will be the first matchup on Friday at 9:00 pm then they will play either Hedgesville (#8) or Greenbriar East the next day.

MOHIGAN JV RUNS RECORD TO 10-1

Nathan Adrian (29 points) only missed two shots all night and collected 7 rebounds in the first quarter to lead MHS to a 72-36 victory over UHS on Friday night. Alex Watson continues his impressive play with 18 points and Sam Lusk contributed many assists and 6 points to the cause. Conner Loudin added 5 points and 8 rebounds. MHS will play at Preston on Wednesday at 5:45.

MAKE PLANS TO JOIN VARSITY IN BECKLEY

Morgantown High (ranked 3rd in latest RPI) will get to take on Noah Cottrell, and his (Top ten ranked, AP poll), Logan Wildcats next week at the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley. Cottrell has signed to play for WVU and will be the second player that has done so to play against the Mohigans. Last week, MHS defeated Elijah Macon of Marion-Franklin in the Primetime Shootout. The Logan game will be played at 9:00 pm on Friday evening Feb. 5. MHS will play the next day at 12:20 or 5:40 depending on whether they win on Friday evening. On Saturday the opponent will be either Greenbriar East or Hedgesville.

West Fairmont Gets Revenge Over Seals

It was revenge in Fairmont as the Patriots defeated Suncrest by 18 points the other night by a score of 52-34. Suncrest blew out West Fairmont in their last meeting in Morgantown at Suncrest in December. This time the Seals were without Andy Vac, due to an injury as well as Dakota Carr who was ill and hung close till the fourth quarter. Adam Shaw, Andre Collins and Scott Core each scored 10 points to lead the scoring for Suncrest. Suncrest 8th grade will host West Preston tomorrow at 7:00.

9th Grade Slams Hawks Again

In another matchup of the leaders of the NCAC, Morgantown (13-1) came away with a 56-36 victory over University (13-2) on Monday night at the Rowdie Center. The last time the two played, UHS led by 13 points at halftime, but this time it was MHS up by 13 and they never looked back as they staved off several UHS comeback attempts and led by as many as 22 points near the end of the game. MHS was led by multi-dimensional Dean Marshall with 17 points and about as many rebounds. Nick Colasante added 11 points and the trio of Alex Weidman, Daniel Eby and Jalen Thomas each added 6 points. Trusty point guard, Blaine Stewart added 5 points and settled MHS down in the 4th quarter to lead them to victory. MHS plays at Buckhanon tonight.
