MORGANTOWN YOUTH BASKETBALL

MARCH 10, 2010

MOHIGAN VARSITY MAKES IT 8 OUT OF 10

WIN TRIP TO STATES WITH WIN VS. WEST

Never in the history of Morgantown High Boys Basketball has there been so much success. Since 2000, the MHS has been to the state tournament eight out of ten years, which includes this year. Last night at the Woody WilliamÕs Armory in Fairmont the Mohigans came from behind to win a trip back to the ÒBig DanceÓ in Charleston by a score of 43-41. ÒGetting back to Charleston was our goal, and we definitely did that,Ó said Sam Runner. Runner had the game winning block, as he swatted Gavin FlowerÕs three point attempt at the buzzer. ÒI saw him get the loose ball, and there was no way I was going to let that shot go up.Ó So MHS moves on to the state tournament again and has a legitimate shot at a state championship.

Sam Lusk sealed the victory with 6 straight free throws down the stretch. ÒSammy is one of the best free throw shooters on the team and having him on the line is usually a good thing for us,Ó said Coach Yester. ÒThis group deserves all the success they are having. They work really hard.Ó MHS will be the 4th seed and play on Thursday morning at 11:15 in the quarterfinals against Capital.

ÒHopefully, many of the future Mohigans will be able to attend the Thursday game,Ó said MYBO Coach Jeff Hoffman. ÒItÕs really important for these kids to see what they are working for. I encourage parents to get their kids out of school and take them to this great event.Ó

This is the seeding for the tournament from metronews.com. The Boys State High School Basketball tournament will be played at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum March 17th thru the 20th and the seedings and pairings for the Class AAA teams is listed below:

MOHIGAN VARSITY FUND DRIVE

The Morgantown Youth basketball Organization is conducting a fund drive to help with expenses for the Mohigan Varsity team in Charleston, next week. ÒThey will need approximately $4000 for food, gasoline and motel rooms,Ó said Coach Hoffman. ÒThe Secondary schools and Athletic department generally kick in about half of this, while privare donations and parents pay the rest. If anyone wishes to donate, please call me by the end of the week. We could use your support,Ó added Hoffman. ÒBusinesses can use this as a tax write-off as well.Ó
