MYBO 8TH CLAIMS FALL CLASSIC CROWN

The Morgantown Youth Basketball 8th graders claimed the Fall Classic this past weekend at MHS. They had to beat the Clarksburg Rim Rockers twice to do it. In their first match up on Saturday, they won a close game by a score of 45-36 after trailing until the last few minutes of the game. ÒThe guys really played great defense in the 2nd half after not coming ready to play in the first half,Ó said first year coach Zach Fox. ÒI was impressed by their effort.Ó Jeff Leftridge led the way in that game with 20 points. In the championship game, MYBO moved out to an early lead and won easily by a score of 47-23. ÒThe guys surprised me and played very unselfishly,Ó said Fox. Sam Heinzman led the way with 19 points. In the Blue and Red game the Red team won by a score of 47-46. The box score is located below. Fox will return to coach the team in the spring and next summer. He is a sophomore at WVU and plans on coaching as a career. He is certainly off to an excellent start. ÒZach is a nice addition to the MYBO coaching staff,Ó said MYBO player development coach Hoffman. ÒHe really loves the game and has very good communication skills. He played point guard on some very good Magnolia High School teams and will really be a huge help with our kids. The 8th graders responded very well to his instruction.Ó

VARSITY DOUBLES UP TRINITY

In their final tune up before the season the Varsity team scorched Trinity on Tuesday night at the Rowdy Center by a score of 90-45. Shooting 53% overall and 48% from three point range, Morgantown had 5 double figure scorers and Carlton Drake added 10 assists in the contest. Jordan Barnett scored 16 points followed by Ryan Parsons and Sam Runner with 13 points each, Evan Berryhill had 11 points and Taylor Price had 10 points. Price and Runner led the team with 6 rebounds each. Trinity was led by Chris Martinez with 19 points. The Varsity team has finished the off season with a 55-11 record and many tournament championships. ÒThis is the best record of an off season team since 2001Õs team had only 8 losses in the off season,Ó said Coach Hoffman. ÒThat team was very special and this team should be special as well. Coach Yester is going to have a great year this year. If they work hard on defense, they have a chance to go far.Ó

LEFTRIDGE, NEAL AND COSTELLANOS WIN THREE ON THREE

The MYBO 3 on 3 championship was held on Thursday evening at the Clyde Gym and Felipe Costellanos, Deon Neal and Jeffrey Leftridge claimed the championship by a score of 64-48 over a hot shooting team led by Andy Vac. With the victory, the champions enjoyed a post game meal at McDonalds. Playing with Andy Vac was Alex Dale and Antonio Morgano. Helping the 2nd place team get to the championship was Michael Keller. ÒI didnÕt remember that Michael was on this team and didnÕt tell him to come, and I believe he would have made a difference,Ó said Coach Hoffman. ÒIt was an exciting game, however. Andy got hot and brought his team back from a 20 point deficit to as close as 9 points in the waning seconds.Ó The event marks the final event for the fall season for MYBO.
