MYBO Claims Tourney In Columbus

The Morgantown Youth Basketball 11th and 12th grade team, pictured above, traveled to Columbus last weekend and came away with another tournament championship. Seniors Jordan Barnett and Sam Runner led the way with scoring averages of 17 points per game. Luke Meador added 13 points per game and Ryan Parsons and sharp shooter, TJ Elchuck added 10 points per game. Also contributing was Carlton Drake with a 6 point average and 3.5 steals and Michael Keffer with 7 points per game and 3 blocks per game. “This tournament championship was particularly impressive because we finished playing the last 2 games with five players, because of injuries.” Said Coach Hoffman. The MYBO 11th and 12th has a 50-11 record since last April and will host a tournament at Morgantown High the weekend of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. JV/FRESHMAN LEARN LESSON THE HARD WAY

It’s a hard way to learn, but Coach Hoffman has prescribed to this theory for years. “I believe that one third of your competition should be older and better than you, one third equal to you and one third not as good as you”, said Hoffman. “To get better you have to play people that are better than you. We went to Columbus and played against some talented hand picked teams who were a year or two older and didn’t do too well on the scoreboard. Our guys have to learn to execute, be patient and let the system work for them.” The theory has been a part of Morgantown Basketball for years and has paid of in past groups. “The Varsity Kids have played people that are older and better than them for years and finally when they are juniors and seniors they have found themselves a pretty good group thanks to a lot of tough lessons over the years.” The Varsity has a 50-11 record since last March. The JV/9th was led in scoring by Nick Colasante and Andy Maloney last weekend. Connor Loudin led the team in rebounds. “The guys were trying real hard but could not get a win. Sometimes the scoreboard doesn’t tell who is really winning, if you know what I mean.” Said Hoffman. This weekend (today) the JV and 9th will play at Trinity.

WMHS, To Stream Live Broadcasts

WMHS- Mohigan radio will be broadcasting games this season for most Mohigan Varsity basketball games. The games will be streamed live on  HYPERLINK "http://www.mohiganbasketball.com/" www.mohiganbasketball.com or at the game site on your FM tuner. WMHS is looking for Morgantown High students to help with broadcasts. MYBO TO HOST FALL TOURNAMENT AT MHS

Morgantown High has graciously permitted the use of their gyms to allow MYBO to run a fall tournament this year. The Fall Shootout will be held the same weekend as The Mohawk Bowl which will be played at University High on Saturday afternoon Oct. 31. Games will scheduled for Saturday morning and evening as well as all day Sunday. Teams participating will tentatively come from Oh., Pa., Md., and WV. Age groups are grades 4th and 5th, 6th and 7th, 8th and 9th, 10th-12th. MYBO will sponsor teams in the 8th, 9th /10th and Varsity age groups. If you want to sign a team up, please contact Coach Hoffman at  HYPERLINK "mailto:jeffhoffman@mohiganbasketball.com" jeffhoffman@mohiganbasketball.com. The cost of the tournament is $150 and games are regulation clock, with National federation rules. We are hoping that someone from South and Suncrest will get a 7th grade group together for this tournament.
