MOHIGAN VARSITY RUNS CONNELSVILLE

Led by four players in double figures, MHS defeated Connellsville by a score of 80-43 on Wednesday night at the MHS gym. Ryan Parsons led the way with 17 points, aided by 14 points by Taylor Price, 13 points (and two dunks) by Sam Runner and 10 points by Luke Meador. Evan Berryhill and Carlton Drake had 10 assists between them to fuel the Mohigan fastbreak. “We were running well and our point guards got the ball out and we finished well.” Said Coach Hoffman. “Taylor Price played strong, but could have had 25 points if our timing was down.” Luke Meador had 7 rebounds and TJ Elchuck added 7 points and 4 assists. “We need all of these contributions to be successful. We have no “super stars”, but with a collective effort we can be very good.”

The MYBO Varsity will play at Trinity today (Saturday) at noon against North Marion. Pictured below is Taylor Price who had 14 points and 5 rebounds in the victory over Connelsville.

MYBO TEAMS TRAVEL TO COLUMBUS NEXT WEEKEND

The Morgantown Youth Basketball Organization fall teams will travel to Columbus the weekend of September 26 and 27. The 8th, 9th/10th and Varsity teams will take part in an AAU tournament at the USA Sports Academy. The entry fee for the tournament is $250 per team. “We are fortunate that MYBO is able to pay this expense. It will cost us $750 to go, plus MYBO pays for the coaches’ motel rooms and gasoline,” said Coach Hoffman. “We are also fortunate to have Thad law and Kameron Law traveling with us to help coach the boys. I can’t do it all myself.”

MYBO will sponsor a tournament the weekend of Oct. 31, in order to help with the MYBO fall expenses. MYBO will also cover the expense of playing at Trinity this weekend ($200). During the regular season, MYBO helps with player meals and coach buses for away games as well as equipment and uniform purchases for Morgantown High. “MYBO has really saved the Parents a lot of money over the past several years, said Hoffman. “I hope everyone helps out with the concession at the fall tournament.”

MEADOR WORKING HARD FOR SENIOR SEASON AND MOHIGANS

He can be found shooting at the Coliseum, in the Clyde Gym, in the back gym,  running the steps at the Coliseum and working hard for strength Coach Jordan Stanley. It has been a steady day by day work ethic that has gotten Luke Meador to this position. What position you ask? He will be one of the leaders of this year’s Mohigan team and a good one at that. “Nobody works harder than Luke,” said MYBO Coach Thad Law. “He was not born with God-given ability. What he has… he had to work for.” And work he has. As a sharp shooter from Suncrest, Luke spends a lot of time in the Coliseum working out. His Dad, Randy works for WVU basketball team as their trainer, and Luke takes advantage of his free time with his Dad.

“Luke has really improved his overall game,” said Coach Hoffman. “When I first started working with him, the main thing he could do was shoot, but now he takes it to the basket and has a deadly pull up. He has really put on some muscle in the past few months and has become maybe our best pound for pound rebounder. When you have a guard that can rebound, it adds another dimension to your team. This off season he has averaged around 5 rebounds per game.”

Team goals are all that Luke prefers to think about. He thinks this year’s team can go far. “We have high expectations for ourselves this year and everybody is aware of that,” he said after a workout this week. “We’ve all been really pushing each other this off season and there has been a great deal of energy and effort. I think we will live up to our expectations for this season. It’s going to be fun.”

Morgantown High will begin practice on November 16 for the JV and Varsity. The middle school teams and 9th grade team will begin on Nov. 9th.
