FLETCHER SIGNS AT CCBC

Former Mohigan, Jay Fletcher has just signed to play college basketball at the Community College of Beaver County (near Pittsburgh). The Titans play in the Western Pennsylvania College Conference and have an enrollment of around 6000 students.

Being a college player has its hard times, as Jay found out. ÒI havenÕt been eating very well, until my Mom came and brought some food,Ó said Fletcher. ÒI have been spending most of my time setting up my apartment and getting used to my class schedule.Ó

Basketball has been tough as well. ÒWe havenÕt touched a ball all week. All we are doing is conditioning. Coach Walker (CCBC Coach) says we have to be in great shape to play the up tempo style he wants to play.Ó

ÒThat should be perfect for Jay,Ó said Coach Hoffman. ÒThey got a good one!Ó

Fletcher last played for the Mohigans in 2008. He was a part of two state tournament semifinal appearances. His junior and senior season seasons, he helped lead MHS to a combined record of 43-9.

GOOD LUCK JAY!

MYBO IN NEED OF DONATIONS

The Morgantown Youth Basketball Organization is looking for donations to purchase a new computer to run the website. Swifty Shaver, graduate of MHS basketball in 1970, has kept the website up for over ten years, even though his son Ronnie (Mohigan basketball 2002) has since graduated. The program that runs the website is getting more complex and his outdated computer needs replaced. MYBO is starting a campaign in this space to list donors to the project. If you wish to contribute, please do so by sending a check to MYBO at 109 Apolla Dr. 26501. Please include your name so we can print it here. If you know of any business that would be willing to help with this project please let us know. We will be a non-profit soon, so donations can be tax free. If you have not been on the website, please visit www.mohiganbasketball.com today. So far there have been $250 dollars donated to this project.

MOHIGAN VARSITY GAMES TO BE TELEVISED THIS SEASON

For the third season, West TV will be broadcasting Mohigan Varsity games on Channel 3. Games are shown on a delay basis, several times during the week. Businesses looking for a way to advertise and support high school athletics can call Mike Ellis at 304-290-5767. The Mohigan community has always been generous and a small contribution can really help.

MOHIGAN BASKETBALL LIFTS WEIGHTS?

Sweat! Pain! Repetition! You will see it all as this group of 18 or so Mohigan basketball players commit to the weight room workouts conducted by MHS strength coach Jordan Stanley. ÒThe boys have been coming in three times a week and working very hard,Ó Said Stanley. ÒI am really enjoying my experience with these guys. If they keep working this hard, they will have a lot of success this season.Ó

The added strength by each player should help their round ball skills. ÒHaving the added strength will help each player in their pursuit of a roster spot,Ó said player development coach Jeff Hoffman. ÒI can see a difference in the games of the players that have committed to the weight room. I am particularly impressed with the development of Carlton Drake. He is dominating play in the drills. Players are just falling off of him. Ryan Antonini has really started to make some gains and he it is really helping his ball handling. If he keeps it up, he could be a surprise player,Ó said Hoffman.

In todayÕs game there is more to just working on your shot. ÒThere is nothing more important in basketball than being able to shoot well, but to play high school basketball you have to be able to stop the opponent,Ó said Hoffman. ÒThe work these guys are doing, will help put them in good position when tryouts come. The coaches will have some hard decisions. I think there will be some surprises.Ó

So, in the meantime, there will be more sweat and determination in the weight room on Edgewood Street, which hopefully will payoff come state tournament time.
